1984 by George Orwell is the story of Winston Smith who is a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in London, in the nation of Oceania. The leader of the party is known only as Big Brother. The Party controls everything in Oceania, even the people's history and language. In the beginning, Winston feels frustrated by the oppression and control of the Party, which prohibits free thought, sex, and any kind of individuality. Winston dislikes the party illegally purchase a diary in which to write his criminal thoughts, which is illegal. He also learns about a powerful Party member named O'Brien, who Winston believes is a secret member of a political party, known as the Brotherhood, that is trying to start a rebellion.

Winston eventually falls in love with a girl named Julia who works in the same place as him. Together they participate in illegal activities such as sex. This relationship lasts for some time. Winston is sure that they will be caught and punished sooner or later while Julia optimistic. As Winston's affair with Julia goes on, his hatred for the Party grows more and more intense. One day, he receives a message from O'Brien who wants to see him. O'Brien tells Winston and Julia that he also hates the Party, and that he works against it as a member of the Brotherhood. He gets Winston and Julia into the Brotherhood, and gives Winston a copy of a illegal book. While Winston was reading the book to Julia soldiers come in and seize them
