Fitness consumers can be frugal consumers as well. For the fitness buff who wants to add an all around piece of equipment to their home gym, the Marcy Smith Cage and Bench is the perfect addition for very little money. The Marcy Smith Cage and Bench is a complete gym offering various exercises all in one machine. Included in the package was a lat pull down, row attachment, butterfly attachment, bench with preacher and leg extension attachment, and many other hooks and bars for even greater exercise diversification.
Diversification is the key to an all-around home workout and this machine does not disappoint. The 300 lbs of included weights are Olympic grade quality. Unfortunately the Smith bar and other attachments react shakily when weight above 300 lbs are used. This in effect would render the Marcy Smith Cage and Bench perfect for home lifters but useless for body building training.
The Marcy Smith Cage and Bench will need to be assembled. The assembly would have to be the worst part of the machine. With meager instructions and thousands of parts, be prepared to spend days not hours on the assembly alone. More than one person is needed to assemble most of the pulley systems and same of the frame work. The height of the machine upon completion is well over six (6) feet so assemblers will need a tall helper as well.
Using the Marcy Smith Cage and Bench is relatively easy and self-explanatory. The pulley system used for the lat pull down, rower and butterfly is smooth and flawless. Whether the lifter adds ten (10) lbs or three hundred (300) no hesitation can be felt.
The included bench which employs a preacher curl and leg extension is wide and comfortable. The leg extension is certainly engineered for people of normal height. Anyone over six (6) feet in height will have trouble reaching full range of motion. On the down motion, your heels may hit the bottom stabilizer bar restricting movement.
For the frugal fitness consumer the Marcy Smith Cage and Bench is cheaper than any other smith machine found on the market. Available for around $350.00, anyone can afford to add this all-in-one machine to their home gym.
