A memorable concert consists of several things including an over-priced beer spilling on the bar where you're elbows are; navigating through a sweaty frequently inebriated crowd; stumbling in the dark over what is hopefully just feet and all of this for a glimpse of a favorite band. Since 1993 the Ogden Theatre has offered exactly this to Denverites by the thousands who swarm to the sometimes over-looked venue located east of The Fillmore Theatre on Colfax Avenue. Housed in a former movie theatre, which opened in 1918, the concert hall is now owned and operated by Nobody In Particular Presents (NIPP) - the company who in 1999 provided the theatre with a much-needed facelift. NIPP operates more than 20 other concert venues in the Denver-proper area but the Ogden offers intimacy and a not-so-rowdy following.
For the 21-and-up crowd, the balcony view is a must, but getting to the show early is the key to scoring a seat and drink-friendly ledge. For those seeking more action, whether it's for dancing or a bit of friendly moshing, head down front and snag a spot close to the stage - the proximity to the audience usually invites interaction from the band on stage, although it depends on the performers. The intimate nature of the Ogden is one worth stopping by for, even if it's to see an old favorite or to discover new music: the acoustics are great, the tickets are usually reasonably priced and with bands playing musical sets ranging from hip hop to death metal, it's always an enticing night. But if it isn't, alcohol is usually available.
