The University of Tennessee is one of the most popular schools in the Southeast. Not only does this school have one of the best college football teams in America, but UT also offers several educational programs. The University of Tennessee was originally known as Blount College and was founded in 1794. UT was actually founded two years before Tennessee became a state. Another interesting fact is that the University of Tennessee was an all male college for almost 100 years. It wasn't until 1892 that the first female students were admitted.

When people think of the University of Tennessee, they immediately think the color orange. But, the school colors didn't become part of UT until 1891. The colors where chosen by one of the original football players.

Interesting things to share. Would have liked to hear what the Union soldiers did with it..a school? unclear to me. History is always interesting and finally factoids are coming out to make it much more interesting. Thank you for sharing some of it.
