Facts about the University of Tennessee #1: Founded in 1794
The University of Tennessee was originally known as Blount College and was founded in 1794. UT was actually founded two years before Tennessee became a state. Another interesting fact is that the University of Tennessee was an all male college for almost 100 years. It wasn't until 1892 that the first female students were admitted.

When people think of the University of Tennessee, they immediately think the color orange. But, the school colors didn't become part of UT until 1891. The colors where chosen by one of the original football players.

The University of Tennessee started its football team during the year of 1891. Since then the Vols have become one of the most popular college football teams in America. Their stadium even grew with them becoming the largest stadium in the South and the third largest football stadium in America.

The University of Tennessee currently has five campus locations located throughout the state. There are campuses located in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin, Tullahoma, and Memphis. Each location has something to offer. For example, the campus in Tullahoma is a Space Institute. But, the main campus, which also happens to be the largest, is located in Knoxville.
