IntroductionCommunication is the primary element of the way that the world works. It is essential in all aspects of human life, whether relating to personal relationships or business ones. When looking at communication between people, it seems as though it would be a simple task, however that is not the case at all. The area that I am personally most interested in is that of organizational communications. It is amazing to me that in this individualistic society strangers can come together, relate to each other and accomplish a common goal. The theory that I feel best explains human communications is the Chaos Theory. This theory not only looks at the fundamentals of communications, but also attempts to explain the abnormalities of it.
Review of Emphasis Area
Organizational communications is a discipline that can be traced back to ancient times, but it really came into the world in the 1930's as a true social science. A man named Charles Redding is considered to be the guru of organizational communications. The subject itself encompasses many different topics, such as public relations, small group, business, human resources and any other type of communications that involves more then two people communicating outside of the intimate relationships that they have. The main assumptions during the early years of research pretty much said that sane people are rational actors, and that communication is a methodical function of life. (Wikipedia) After further research the new thought process was that the field moved from communications being mechanical to a study of a combination of several social science disciplines such as sociology, philosophy, theology, psychology, and how these sciences relate to businesses in regards to management, administration, relations and more.
