Why Do Women Cry? They Say Women Cry for No Reason, but that May Not Be True

I just watched a YouTube video by a very popular member entitled Girls Are Weird, Why Do They Cry for No Apparent Reason? His girlfriend was in the video and they were talking about an instance that actually happened when she started crying, and could not explain why. Their conclusion was that girls cry for no reason and are strange. While I believe that women do cry for reasons they cannot explain, I do not believe women cry for no reason at all. (Note: I am using the word women instead of girls for all intent and purposes, my use of the word women include girls from 16 to 50. I have never seen an older woman cry for no reason). Here are the reasons that I (a woman) believe that women cry.

Exhaustion: You may have noticed that many performers have been known to collapse and end up in the hospital in the middle of a tour due to exhaustion and frustration. This is an extreme kind of tired experienced by someone who has worked too hard and has not had time to relax. This kind of tired will even make a grown man cry, he just will not do it in front of you.

Frustration: Have you ever heard a woman say she had a good cry? Well chances are she cried from frustration, and the act of crying relieved the frustration. She will cry until she cannot cry anymore, with reasons being anything, or nothing at all, and arise from her soaking wet pillow ready to face anything the world can dish out.

Lack of Control: Women often find that they have these mysterious crying fits when in new relationships. They often blame their crying on hormones. The truth is that they are in a situation, which they do not know how to control. As exciting as a new relationship is, not knowing what is going to come next can be extremely frustrating and unsettling and lead to an unexplainable crying fit.

Extreme Happiness: Emotion is emotion and tears are tears. Women will cry just as easily from extreme joy as they will sadness. So if you walk into the room, and she bursts into tears, do not worry. She may just be happy to see you.

Takeaways
  • Women cry when they are exhausted.
  • Women cry when they are frustrated.
  • Women cry when they are happy.

i cry a lot and i easily cry. bad situation, mistakes, frustration, self disappointment...they make me cry. and yeah, the thought that your loved one doesn't want you to cry coz ur reason for crying is not enough and valid for him, that makes me cry even more. Women cry for every reason they can think of. It may not be valid or the same reason as yours, but still women have genuine reasons for crying. Even crazy people (depressed, schizo), they have their reasons, may be valid or not, but crying is one of their ways to express themselves.

Those are pretty terrible reasons for crying (except the happy one). Crying takes you out of a state of mind where you can DO something to aleviate the problem, and turns you into a blubbering mess. Reasonable thinking usually doesn't happen during a crying fit, and let's not forget that it brings down those around you as well. There are moments... If your friend dies, you cry. It's something tragic happens, you cry. But if you just get "frustrated" because of some dumb everyday stuff, and cry, you're pathetic (and irritating to those around you). It's irrational. getting mad-crying is different... at least you're likely to DO SOMETHING about it and not just sucking the energy out of everything around you.

You left one out, at least in my case--anger. Nothing brings me to tears faster than being good and mad! I'll also start crying if I am with someone who is crying, just like a baby! Great article.

Nice break down in clarity. Simply said and to the point. It is important to start eliminating some of the unkind blanket statements that belittles womanhood and "human nature" and reminds all of us that being ourselves is acceptable, even if it is not fully understood in the moment. It is a part of or being and expression as we were divinely created! Good work!

Eureka!!! That's why I was crying so often. It was a combination of Exhaustion, Frustration, and lack of control. I'm exhausted because I have no time to rest due working too much on homework; frustration for the reason being that I don't get what the teachers saying or if they're explaining it incorrectly, and I feel that I'm lacking control because I'm usually on top of my work and feeling on the bottom (especially as a freshman in highschool) has left me crying at least 3-4 times a week or atleast feeling depressed. Thank you so much for clarifying this. I had an idea as to why I was crying but you clearly pointed it out!!!

Great article. A male friend of mine once said to me, "What's the point in crying it doesn't solve anything?" Most of the time when I cry it is from frustration and to release the anxiety of it all.

Great article! I remember when I was young I would hear my mother cry and wonder about the reason. My father said "just cuz" - and I didn't know what this really meant until I became a mother. I think sometimes, to add to your list, women cry because they are overwhelmed - overwhelmed with children and life in general because we can see it all at once, past, present and future. (If that makes any sense!)
