Movies are reflections of fantasy and adventure and often time portray scenarios in which people's lives are put in peril or are indeed taken. However, in the reality of film making accidents do happen and people do get hurt. Here are some of the accidents, deaths, and close calls that have happened during filming.

Valkyrie:
Working under the name of Valkyrie, the Tom Cruise Nazi Germany based film, this set saw injury come to eleven people in one scene. 11 men riding in the back of a truck fell out when a bolt failed. The truck turned and the extras poured out of the truck and ended up getting trips to the hospital.

The Final Season:
While filming this baseball movie, releasing October of 2007, camera man Roland Schlotzhauer was killed while filming some parade sequences. Roland was well-known for his ability to capture shots from helicopters and he was filming from a Bell 206 when it hit power lines. The helicopter then crashed into a field seriously injuring the pilot and a producer on board, while ending Roland's life.

The Twilight Zone (The Movie):
The horrible incident that took place on this film set ended the life of actor Vic Morrow and two children. John Landis the director along with others spent a long time in courts avoiding responsibility for the accident, however many in the professional field were angered by shortcuts and unsafe practices taken during the filming. The incident in question involved a helicopter that flew too low and was damaged by pyrotechnics. The helicopter crashed down on Morrow and the two children resulting in decapitations and crushing.

The Invasion:
Riding in a stunt car being pulled by a tow truck, Nicole Kidman narrowly escaped serious injuries. The car slid on the wet road, going around 45 miles per hour, when the tow truck took a quick turn. The car struck a pole hard enough to knock out power to other streetlights. Several stuntmen were on top of the car when it hit as well, however they too avoided serious injury.

Oh wow I didn't know about Nicole Kidman, interesting. I remember The Crow; I think all of us have. Good read

Great article! I had actually heard of a few of these, but not most of them. Sounds like being a stunt man (person) is as dangerous an occupation as I always thought it would be, and acting itself as well. Stuntman Jackie Burns came from our hometown and his parents are friends of ours. Do you know him?

Wow I didn't realize there were so many accidents on the set of movies. Its a shame that Brandon Lee died on the set of a movie like his father Bruce Lee.

It makes you wonder is any of these types had any injuries on them.

To bad one of them wasn't Tom Cruise.

Who would have thought that Syriana would have been a set where injuries occured. This is one interesting list. It kind of brings us back to the reality that accidents to happen (and are very unfortunate in some cases like in the Crow) even on movie sets.

It's amazing more accidents don't occur on the set. I've been on my share of movie sets and between fatigue, sometimes perilous locations and the need to hurry, sets are often accidents waiting to happen. Great article!
