Parents then try to lean on coaches from everything to contacting college recruiters to putting together there child's highlight reel. It's just gotten to be a little much.A number of parents have placed undue stress on there children by hounding them to do this and that to get an athletic scholarship. Most of these athletes began playing these games because it was enjoyable for them. It was a past time or a means or getting together with friends not just a way to finance their college education. How many little leaguer's play because they have hopes of getting baseball scholarships?
Most of the older coaches recall when we had multi-sport athletes because there wasn't as much specialization and year round training that there is now. It's become a more stressful time for high school athletes with more decisions regarding athletics, academics and personal life than in the past.
Sports have become so main stream that all parents want their kids to be superstars right away. But most coaches will agree that the biggest change has been the internet. Coaches often have parents openly discussing and ridiculing the coaches on and off the field decisions. There have been instances of coaches getting verbally abused on message boards regarding the lack of athletic scholarships they've obtained over the years. Often parents or family members hide behind usernames and avoid any true communication or problem resolution.
The internet has opened up a year long notebook to each and every sport. And while that is an incredibly exciting opportunity to have it can also be incredibly demeaning to the coaches trying to just win some high school games. In a media filled society with sports analysts, chat rooms, message boards, and bloggers coaches and players are feeling more of the pressure than ever. The best advice we've heard is not to pay attention to the internet and focus on your game. If you're good enough to get an athletic scholarship, whether it's a baseball scholarship or football scholarship, etc. then rest assured recruiters will find you.
