Haunted in Indiana

The Local Folklore and Legends of 6 Towns in the State of Indiana

Do you believe in ghosts? Many residents in the state of Indiana do and for good reason!

Allen County, Fort Wayne, Indiana

In the old jailhouse, legend tells of a deceased murderer who haunts the halls. Today, the jail is used as a Halloween scare attraction. Employees who work in the building during the off season have reported hearing phantom footsteps and the sounds of scraping along the

 walls.

Clark County, Henryville, Indiana

In Dan's Run, residents have claimed that doors opened and closed in their homes for no apparent reason. Many have reported hearing footsteps in their hallways at night or finding footprints outside their bedroom windows in the mornings. Objects in their homes are frequently and unexplainably moved or rearranged.

Lake County, Cedar Lake, Indiana

At the Selysions Private School, that has since been torn down, many reported to have heard the sounds of cries, screams and whispers throughout the building. Several people claimed to have seen orbs that seemed to follow them and some even reported seeing full-bodied apparitions of former students sitting at the desks.

Lake County, Hammond, Indiana

On the second floor of the Bishop Noll Institute, many have claimed to hear footsteps and talking when no one else was around. In the library, there is a cold spot that is said to remain there at all times, despite the warmer air throughout the rest of the room. In the pool area, laughter has been heard but it seems to come from nowhere specific.

Lake County, Hammond, Indiana

In two of the upstairs bedrooms in the Jayme House, doors are reported to open on their own, odd smells have been detected, strange and unexplainable noises have been heard and the sounds of phantom children have been heard running, laughing and playing. Throughout the rest of the house, items are moved to odd places by some unseen force, chairs are moved and placed in odd arrangements and people have claimed to be touched by hands that they could not see.

Vanderburgh County, Evansville, Indiana

There is a place in Boonville, Indiana where a lady named annie was killed in the woods. Now she never leaves. If you drive down there in the middle of the night and you are really quiet and paying attention, she will scream and you can feel her presence in the vehicle with you. It is freaky!!!!!
