Special Education Teacher Arrested After Sexually Abusing Students

According to a recently published Los Angeles Police Department press release, a Los Angeles special education teacher has been arrested for charges of Lewd Acts with a Dependent Adult after he was found acting inappropriately toward several of his special education students at John Marshall High School.

The official arrest happened back earlier this week on Monday, August 20. The Los Angeles Police Department's Sexually Exploited Child Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Unit detectives arrested 60-year-old Fred Johnson at his home in North Hollywood, California. As previously stated, he was arrested on charges of Lewd Acts with a Dependent Adult. His bail is currently set at $800,000.

The report of Johnson's behavior originally came into the Los Angeles Police Department on August 10. According to police, a teacher's aid in Johnson's special education class notified the John Marshall High School's principal that she saw Johnson acting inappropriately and out of line with several of his students in the Special Education Program at the school. The principal immediately notified the police department.

Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Sexually Exploited Child Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Unit went to the school to conduct their investigation. They interviewed numerous students and other teachers and they believe that there were three additional sexual assault victims that were abused by Johnson. All of the alleged victims' ages ranged between 14 and 19 years.

The sexual assault and Lewd Acts with a Dependent Adult case is being presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney Sex Crimes Division for filing consideration and additional investigation. As of right now, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released any more information about the case or the victims.

Johnson had a clean record before this incident and worked in the special education program at John Marshall High School since the fall of 1992.
