Jogging is an effective and increasingly popular way to keep fit, and as the number of people jogging increases, so does the incidence of robbery and assault. Take precautions to avoid being victimized so you can enjoy all the health benefits that jogging provides!

You may feel safe jogging in a reputable neighborhood when you are not carrying money or other valuables, but a potential assailant may choose you as a victim anyway. Jogging with a companion is one of the best measures you can take to remain safe.

Keep to busy streets and pay attention to your surroundings. It's easy to let your mind wander to thoughts of what you are going to do later in the day, or get in the jogging zone thinking about how far you have gone, or have to go yet. Look around once in a while so potential assailants know that you are aware of what's going on around you.

Although listening to music can make jogging more enjoyable, wearing head phones may keep you from hearing the approach of potential trouble. Be cautious if anyone stops you to ask for directions, cigarettes, or change. Even if the person seems sincere and harmless avoid stopping if you can. Most serial killers are charming, likable people; that's how they get away with committing their crimes for so long!

Leave the flashy jewelry at home. A robber may not recognize the difference between cheap jewelry and the real thing. Keep your cell phone or other valuables you must carry in a concealed place. If you don't have a cell phone, carry a phone card or enough change for a phone call.

Change your route often and always let someone know where you are going, the route you are taking, and the approximate time you will return home. If your schedule permits, do your jogging at different times of the day. A perdictable jogging routine may be noticed by a potential assailant who may take advantage of the situation.

Jogging at night requires special precautions. Always have a companion when you jog at night. Jog only on well-lit, busy streets, avoiding bushes and dark or deserted areas.

Takeaways
  • Take precautions to avoid being victimized while jogging.
  • Jogging with a companion is the best way to remain safe.
  • Consider carrying some sort of personal protection device.

Good advice. You know a cell phone could fit into a computer mouse case and then could be tucked into some of your apparel. Then you could call if you are taken! Granted there were cell towers close enough. Anyway, thank you for sharing such common sense.
