Valerie Anne Bertinelli was born on April 23, 1960 in Wilmington, Delaware to parents Andrew and Nancy. She and her three brothers moved around alot since their father was a General Motors executive. They also lived in
 Oklahoma, Louisiana and Michigan. When Valerie was a teen, her family was once again uprooted when GM transferred her father to Van Nuys, California. Her Career
Playing the part of "Barbara Cooper", the youngest, lily-white daughter of a new divorcee´, kept Bertinelli gainfully employed for nearly a decade. The show's run started in 1975 and ended in 1984. However, a little known fact about actress Valerie Bertinelli is, she found attending school and acting full-time to be a difficult act. Once she graduated from high school in 1978, Bertinelli breathed a sigh of relief. She was now free to turn her full attention to acting.

Time for Romance
Although acting kept her busy, Valerie Bertinelli still found time for romance. During the 1970's, she dated actor Scott Colomby and director Steven Spielberg. On April 11, 1981, Valerie Bertinelli married heavy metal rocker Edward Van Halen. Since she had a squeaky-clean reputation to uphold, her marriage to Van Halen, a known "bad boy", was kept hidden from the public and the media.

After "One Day at a Time" had finished its run, the Bertinelli/Van Halen marriage was finally made public. Valerie wanted a child, but she had a miscarriage. Then, on March 16, 1991, she gave birth to, Wolfgang Van Halen. He was named after composer Wolfgang Mozart. Still, they affectionately nicknamed their son, "Wolfie."

Wonderful article. I have always been a fan of Valerie Bertinelli. It is sad her marriage failed but I give her credit for keeping it out of the news and raising her son with her principles and standards. It's cool that father and son are making music together and good that "mom" will be keeping an eye on his habits.

I did hope that Valerie and Ed Van Halen would have lasted...but I guess in Hollywood..there are not too many happy marriages...good article
