Situated in a mountain valley in West Virginia, Holly River State Park is a secluded park perfect for a retreat from the daily stresses of life. The second largest park in West Virginia, Holly River has over 8000 acres of forest to get away from it all and relax. The park is located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia and is a central point for many of the great activities this region has to offer. The park offers multiple cabins for visitors to rent that are made of stone and timber. The cabins include fireplaces, appliances, and bathrooms. The cabins, like much of the park, are shaded by towering trees that provide a cool and quiet environment. The park also offers 88 camping sites that lie along the banks of the Laurel Fork of the Holly River. The small stream is an ideal size for children to play. The campsites are not crowded upon each other like in many places, making the campground have a more natural feel than the usual park campgrounds. As the campground is spread out considerably the park offers four separate shower / restroom areas for campers. A dump station and laundry facilities are also available.
The park offers picnic areas, many miles of hiking trails, and scenic views from many peaks. The park has a pool, basketball, tennis, softball and other game courts for visitors to use.
There are many nearby attractions for vacationers. The West Virginia Game Farm at French Creek offers an up close look at wildlife from the region. The small Swiss settled village of Helvetia is also located nearby offering a unique look into the culture of these early American settlers. Pricketts Fort State Park, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, Cass Scenic Railroad, and Outlet Shopping at Flatwoods are with-in a reasonable drive of the park. While driving in this area is time consuming due to the winding roads, the trips are filled with scenery and a slower pace of life.
