butterfly precious and unconcerned

neon standing ready yet still
awaiting rainslick urban nights
time and life amplified in
splashing footstep lonely walk

once smoky room now fumbles
smokeless through tribal ritual
bonding under cold cathode light
and colder drinks condensing
lives, truths, and stories to

miniature points of light conversation

diplomats from countries of one
engage in treaties, alliances,
and terms of surrender.
