In the last article we talked about making your iPod wedding your own by making sure that everything was just so. You've got to remember all the individual steps and one of the easiest ways to do that is by making sure that you've covered all your bases and divvying up the individual movements of the evening, remembering the special songs deserve special attention, and having somebody handy (the best man immediately comes to mind) who can jump-in in a pinch if anything comes the matter. When you're choosing the songs there are a few things that you need to remember if you're going to pull this off correctly.
1) Go over your music. Sit. Repeat: You need to give your tunes a number of listens. Trust me. I'm a Taurus; I think I get everything right the first time and if I'd gone with my first picks for this wedding we'd have Olivia Newton John, Barry Mannilow, and Rupert Holmes; back to back to back. Not that I've got anything against any of those artists but let's just say that after a number of rounds, all three are no longer contestants.
2) Don't Kill Us with that Musak from your Dentists office: This is a party. We want to have our sentimental moments and we want to be brought to tears...at points. But this is a party! So let's party! No one wants to hear Amy Grant then Air Supply then Bryan Adams in a row, right?
3) Don't Go Too Overboard; Remember Grandma: While YES you are doing this because you don't want to deal with those same drappy tunes that you had at your Freshman Winter Formal (literally, the SAME songs) you need to be able to remember your audience. You don't want to get too obscure and lose people. If it's at the end and you're just dancing, that's one thing and a good mix of the familiar, the vaguely familiar, and the unfamiliar is fine so long as they've got a good beat and a good flow; if you lose people too early on they'll just stop listening.
