I have used many all natural soaps, and have found out that since using my first all natural bar, that they tend to work and smell a hell of a lot better than most drug store or super store soaps. It was only 'natural' that I give an all natural shampoo a try. Burt's Bee's Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo was the first and probably the last all natural shampoo I will ever use.
The bottle itself promised that the oh so natural ingredients in the shampoo would make my hair super shiny, and super soft.
After reading the ingredients, I wondered where all the natural stuff was. You see mama always taught me, if you can't pronounce it, than it must not be natural.
Ingredients taken from the bottle read:
Water, decyl & lauryl glocosides (natural coconut, corn starch, &sugar soap blend), coco-glucoside and glyceryl oleate (natural sunflower & coconut oil soap blend), soy protein, coco betaine (coconut oil moisturizer), honey, sucrose ester (natural sugar ester), betaine (sugar beet), vegetable glycerin, hydroxypropyltrimonium oligosaccharide (sugar moisturizer), glucose (sugar), grapefruit oil, orange oil, lemon oil, tangerine oil, lime oil, ginger oil, petitgrain oil, xanthan gum (natural thickener), glucose oxidase & lactoperoxidase (natural preservative).
They threw in the actual name of the odd ingredients, so I guess it must be real? Whatever, I was trying it either way. I had used poison ivy soap from Burt's Bee's before with excellent results, so I assumed I would be getting excellent results with their shampoo.
Packaging:
The bottle is... how can I put this? Well...it's sort of ugly, and not very appealing to the woman's eye. The yellowish colored shampoo comes packaged in a plastic see through bottle, with a cheap sticker slapped on it with the name of the product Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo. There is a hand drawn picture of a grapefruit and a beet...although the beet looks more like a carrot to me.
