Central Imaging Associates of Yonkers, New York for Cancer Screening, Mammograms

Central Imaging Associates, part of the Hudson Valley Radiology Associates system, is located in Yonkers, New York at 1234 Central Park Avenue. My routine screening mammogram took place there recently. Their office is located within a pleasant office building and is easily reached by public transportation (#20 White Plains bound bus). There are adequate parking spaces in the back of the building.

My appointment was for 12:15 p.m. so I made sure to be there fifteen minutes early so that I could fill out the paperwork. I remembered my prescription for the procedure, but, unfortunately, had forgotten my insurance card. However, I was greatly relieved when one of the administrative staff told me that I could complete the form after returning home and fax it back to them later in the day, along with a copy of the insurance card.

The waiting area, while small, is neatly arranged and there are stacks of magazines for those who wish to read them (though I do wonder, really, who would wish to read the latest copy of "Radiology Today"). When my name was called I was shown to the changing area--two dressing rooms with locking doors and several lockers for personal belongings. I had to wait a little while longer, though, as the machine was being serviced. However, both the administrative staff and the technician apologized for the delay and I passed quite a pleasant fifteen minutes or so leafing through the February 2007 issue of Vogue magazine before I was ushered into the examining room.

The room was markedly cool, and, when I enquired about this I was told that, because of the enormous amount of heat the imaging machines create, it was necessary to keep the temperature low. I must say that, when it came to the exam itself, the technician did an excellent job--got the images she required in a prompt and professional manner without causing me undue pain and discomfort. Once they were developed, she showed them to me, said that they "looked fine" and stated that they would be sending a letter to my doctor.
