A garage sale is almost a necessity for when you are about to move. It is the perfect opportunity to have one because now is the time you want to get rid of excess stuff. This is also the time you will be going through everything and you know what you do not need anymore. If you advertise your garage sale you will most likely get more activity because they know you are ready to get rid of your stuff.

Try to get rid of as much of the stuff that you have laying around your house that you do not use. The more that you get rid of, the less you will have to pack up and haul away. If it is something that you are debating if you really need, try and sell it at the garage sale. If you advertise your garage sale as a moving sale you will get more activity.

You will have a successful garage sale if you price your items to sell. If you are trying to get the price you paid for the item, you will have a lot of leftover items. You can always have a sign at your garage sale stating that you will accept offers. This attracts buyers to buy more. Another suggestion would be to set your items at 50% off the last day to get rid of as much as you possibly can.

You need to be open several days to attract the most buyers as possible. Having a garage sale for one day is not enough opportunity to get rid of stuff. My suggestion would be to have a garage sale Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You will get a lot more activity than you would in one day. It takes a lot of work to set up a garage sale and it is a big waste of time if you only have it for one day.

I would suggest having your friends and family help you sort through your items and price them to sell. Pricing your items can be very time consuming. You also can ask friends and family for tables to set your items on as well as sitting there with you when the sale is going on. You can purchase price labels at your local store, or use masking tape and a sharpie marker to price your items.
