The gaming landscape has exploded in the last decade with the market being swarmed by a torrent of various gaming console systems. With the PC developing in leaps and bounds as well as a new console every 24 or so months, how can us mere mortal consumers work out what device deserves our hard-earned the most. I certainly believe I have the answer, and I would really like to hear your opinion. I strongly believe that the Personal Computer is the best gaming platform out there on the market because it's versatility both hardware and software wise.

There is a whole range of different PC's out there, and catering for the budget types ALL the way up to the hardcore gaming types and that is one of the advantages normal consoles do not have. You can get a cheap gaming PC for around $AU600 and it will do everything you want it to do, surf the net, Internet banking, word processing and light gaming, albeit the quality of gaming wouldn't be as eye-popping as a $AU2000 machine but still there is a PC for every price range. Furthermore, a PC is more than just a gaming machine so you are actually investing in machine that doesn't go out of phase unlike the many obsolete consoles that are gathering dust in my garage. If you want to increase your eye candy, you can simply go and upgrade it, no need to get a whole new one. This is certainly not true for many consoles as end-user modifications are strictly prohibited and for the PC provided that you did not purchase a pre-built PC every individual component (eg CPU, RAM, graphics card etc etc) has its own warranty.

Takeaways
  • The versatility of the PC as something more than a gaming device.
  • The PC's ability to cater for every gamer out there.

your absolutely right, especially how pcs are cheaper in the long run. Every 5 years a new console comes out, so thats another 600+ dollars. where as with a pc you just upgrade your video card. I agree with you on everything

I guess the PC is the ultimate gaming platform if you're going to limit yourself to FPS and RTS titles.
