War, what is it good for? Absolutely everything! This is a film for the ladies and fellas. I do not know one guy who doesn't love kung fu fights, elaborate action stunts, swords, car chases and creative kills. Ladies, remember Go-Go from Kill Bill: Volume One? As we say in DC, she turned it in this film. She gave a whole new meaning to power suit but her wardrobe came in third place (First being The Devil Wears Prada with Meryl Streep and the Chanel Boots and second being Perfect Stranger and Halle Berry putting pencil skirts back on the fashion map). When I was saw the stand-up poster for this film three weeks before it came out, I remember thinking wow what a movie this will be because I would not know who to root for because I love both Jet Li and Jason Statham. Before I get started let me say this is one of those films where if you take a bathroom break you will be lost so defy all bladder laws while this movie is playing. There are a lot of twists, turns and hints throughout the movie and although they explain everything at the end, the twist at the end makes this one the best movies I have seen this summer.
Sidebar, if you are a loyal reader you will know I haven't written a review in a while. I did that on purpose because a lot of the films I saw this summer were great but they were also so predictable that it just wasn't worth writing about. I must I am so excited and salivating on my keyboard about giving this film a good review and I haven't been this impressed since the film 300.
The opening scene establishes that Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) and Tom Loan (Terry Chen) are FBI agents fighting crime in the Japanese gang arena. The key players are the Triads and the Azuka. Chang (John Lone) was the head of the Triads and Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi) was the head of the Azuka. If you are a Rush Hour fan, remember the dude that killed Jackie's partner is Hong Kong that he karate-kicked out of a Vegas hotel window? He is Chan. I though that was cool how they tied the history from that film to this one.
