The 15 Most Needed Hurricane Supplies

In the event of an emergency, preparation can be the difference between safety and disaster. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other government groups and organizations who have devised the ideal preparation plans now have a list of the 15 most essential supplies to protect families facing the destructive eye of a hurricane. The following list is not in any best-to-least order of importance. To be prepared, be sure your house is stocked with all fifteen of these essential supplies.

All of the following products are available at medical supply companies. See your telephone directory or online search engines (yahoo.com, google.com, msn.com) for details.

1. An emergency supply blanket. These are solar survival blankets that can be purchased through a variety of online vendors. Emergency supply blankets effectively reflect back 90% of a person's body heat when wrapped around the body, sustaining warmth when faced with colder conditions.

2. A supply of bandages should be stored, preferably using an air-tight container. Include wraps and bandages of varying sizes. Be sure to have the following in your storage supply: Butterfly wound closures, fabric and plastic bandages, blue metal-detectable, finger cuts, gauze dressing pads and bandages (both sterile and non-sterile gauze), trauma pads, non-stick pads, non-stick pads with adhesive edges, triangular sling, first aid tape, elastic bandages, and flexible wound closures.

3. Blood borne Pathogens--include burn care first aid products, burn dressings and blankets, fire blankets and fire-safe containers to house clothing and supplies.

4. CPR supplies--Your CPR kit should in include automated external defibrillators, CPR faceshields, and CPR keychains.

5. First Aid Kits--use metal or plastic cases to house your first aid supplies

6. First Aid Stations--A good preparedness kit come in larger sizes with organized and labeled units in shelf industrial first aid cabinet/commercial first aid stations.
