According to a recently published State of Missouri Governor's press release, Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has announced that the Missouri Housing Development Commission has granted NeighborWorks American and Beyond Housing with $90,000.

The $90,000 award will go to help Missouri residents keep their homes by preventing foreclosure with the Missouri Homeownership Preservation Network program.

Governor Blunt said about the program and the grant, "The dream of owning your own home is an American dream," Gov. Blunt said. "We want as many Missourians as possible to achieve this dream and for families that already own a home we want them to keep it. Missourians can be proud of this partnership and our efforts to assist at-risk homeowners by helping them avoid a foreclosure on their dream."

CEO and president of Beyond Housing Chris Krehmeyer said, "We must get the word out that there are solutions to prevent foreclosures. Early action is key. Families who are behind in their mortgage payments need to talk to a housing counselor or their lender. Many lenders are willing to work with borrowers to try to avoid foreclosures."

The Missouri Homeownership Preservation Network is a partnership among housing experts in St Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield, Missouri. The entire program is nonprofit and the $90,000 grant will go to the Network to help Missouri residents keep their homes.

"The program is going to help out a lot of people in the state who are running into financial troubles and issues with their homes," said St. Louis resident Stephanie Armstrong. "I wasn't able to prevent foreclosure on my home and it created tons of problems with my family and even my job. We had to move and start from scratch. But with the money, I'm sure it will go to help out a lot of people who are in the position that I was in."
