The San Diego Chargers watched the New England Patriots celebrate on their home field back in January after the Patriots defeated them in the Divisional round of the AFC playoffs. Since that day, there has been a lot of focus on where this team stands and what they need to do to get over that hump. A 14-2 record and the league MVP on their side was not enough for the Chargers in 2006. So they brought in a new, offensive minded coach that installed their current system (Norv Turner) and are looking at another run into the playoffs. Can Turner shake off the stigma of being an unsuccessful head coach in the NFL? He'll have his best chance to do so in San Diego. They've got a potent offense with weapons all over the field, and a punishing defense. Is that going to be enough to get them back to the playoffs and further than last season?

San Diego Chargers
2006 Record (Standing): 14-2
2006 Postseason (If app.): Lost to New England (AFC Divisional Round)
Head Coach (Career Record): Norv Turner (58-82-1; 1st season w/San Diego)
Key Additions: WR Craig Davis (draft; 1st round, 31st pick)
Key Losses: WR Keenan McCardell (cut; Houston), S Terrence Kiel (cut; unsigned), LB Steve Foley (cut; unsigned), LB Donnie Edwards (FA; Kansas City), WR Az-Zahir Hakim (FA; Miami)

Takeaways
  • LaDainian Tomlinson is one of the best running backs in NFL history.
  • Norv Turner will need to exorcise his past head coaching failures.
  • The Chargers' defense must be aggressive to stop defenses.
