Do you find yourself wondering what to do with the kids this Halloween? Sometimes it seems like the obvious custom of trick-or-treating just isn't going to work for one reason or another. Maybe you are worried about the safety of your children walking around the streets at night. Maybe your neighborhood just doesn't turn on those front porch lights, signaling that candy awaits those who knock. Maybe the weather isn't cooperating. Or maybe you're just uncomfortable with your kids knocking on strangers' doors. Whatever the reason may be, if trick-or-treating isn't an option there are some alternatives so that your children can have a fun Halloween experience.Get into Handing Out Treats
One idea is to stay in with the kids and hand out treats. You can make this fun by getting into costumes, decorating the house, having props, and preparing and cooking interesting treats. The children can have specific duties that they find fun or interesting. Make sure that you have a variety of candy or treats for not only your visitors, but also your children.
Scary Sleepover
The vast majority of children in America have been to a slumber party at least once. Why not have a sleepover on Halloween with a scary theme? All of the guests could wear unique costumes or there could be a specific theme (magicians, witches, ghosts, etc.). Plan some entertainment and activities for the kids and have treats available. Make sure that you send out invitations well in advance so that parents and children can prepare themselves for the sleepover. Remember to plan for breakfast since the kids will need something to eat the following morning.
