I had a gift certificate from restaurants.com for $25 for Trio's restaurant located in the Quality Inn & Suites Conference Center, New Port Richey, Florida.

It stated on the gift certificated that is could be used between 5.00 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. but not on holidays. We went Tuesday of last week and used the separate entrance to the restaurant and bar area. The restaurant was closed and we were told to eat in the bar area. We looked into the lounge and knew that we would have a romantic dinner for two.

I telephone today, Sunday, and made sure that the restaurant was open for dinner. We arrived a little after 5.00 p.m. and our server said "Two" and when I answered, "Yes", she asked "booth or table". We decided on a booth and were seated at the third booth on our left. She left us menus.

There was a separate page with the early bird menu but that could not be combined with our discounted gift certificate.

I suggested to Len that we share an appetizer so when she came back with 2 waters, Len ordered a diet coke, and I asked for the stuffed mushrooms @ $3.95.
About 5 minutes later she came back with Len's coke, bread, butter, and asked if we were ready to order. I asked for Trio's seafood sampler @ $14.95 and Len ordered the 12 oz. prime rib @ $17.95.

Shortly after Len's cheese soup, my salad, and the appetizer arrived. I had just buttered my bread so asked our server if she would ensure that our entrees didn't come out too quickly.

The bread, and my salad were good. Len said that his soup was just okay. Our server came back with more diet coke for Len and as she didn't bring water I exchanged mine for Len's.

When our dinners came out Len's prime rib looked a good size and he had garlic-mashed potatoes with it. The prime rib was very fatty, as they hadn't trimmed it before serving it to Len. It was tender but had very little flavor.

My broiled seafood sampler had 4 hard, chewy, shrimp, 4 tender scallops and a really tiny end piece of grouper. It was on a bed of rice that I never eat. It came with a small baked potato. Unfortunately the seasoning on the shrimp and scallops was peppery and very hot.

It's a shame this restaurant did not meet your expectations. Sophie
