1. Make sure you are getting married for the right reasons, and to the right person. Divorces are expensive and messy. Don't rush into anything- and make sure your relationship is healthy and strong, planning weddings can be stressful for couples, and could drive a couple that is already fighting right over the brink. Don't be rushed into marrying by others. Make sure you are happy with the person as they are. Don't count on changing them after the wedding, as you're likely deluding yourself. Don't get married because you're hitting 30 and all of your other friends already are married. Don't get married because you don't want to pay for two separate houses anymore. Don't get married because you've been dating so long, and everyone thinks you should. The only good reason to marry someone is because you love them and because you can't imagine spending your life without them. My dad told me once that before you marry someone, you should ask yourself what you would do if they were permanently paralyzed from the neck down on the morning of your wedding. Would you still want to marry them, or would you run?
