Employee theft happens frequently in different ways. One method is by switching price tags on items. Another way is by actually wearing clothes items and walking out of the store with it on. Here are five tips on how to deal with employee theft. Video Cameras
Make sure to have video cameras all over the place. You want to make sure that each employee knows she or he is being recorded. Make sure that you look at the video cameras on a regular basis in order to keep track of each employee. You want to make sure that they don't do anything wrong. The video cameras are the evidence that you need in order to fire them.
Keep track of items
You want to make sure that you have an accurate count of each item that was sold, damaged, or sent back. You need to make sure that damaged items aren't actually missing items that an employee might of stolen. Make sure to notice anything fishy going on like too many items being documented as damaged when they really aren't. Missing items are often shoplifted by customers too.
Count Cash
Make sure to have your employee's count the cash on a regular basis. You want to also double check the cash in order to make sure it is all there. Some employee's are really good at counting wrong in order to be able to steal a twenty here and there that you wouldn't notice. It is a good idea to always double check so make sure that they aren't lying.
Keep track of employee discounts
Make all the employee's have another cashier ring up any items that they decide to buy. You don't want them to be able to give out their employee discount to themselves more than once or to other people. You want to make sure that the other cashiers don't forget to scan a few items when ringing up employee's. It is another way that an employee can steal from the business.
Look for merchandise in other areas of the business where you don't have video cameras
