1) Hang art at eye level, no matter how high your walls are. 2) Always strive for balance. Match the hanging to the surroundings. Art, mirrors, etc., should never be wider than the furnishings they’re placed over but on the other hand, they shouldn’t be too much smaller either. If you have a lot of small art pieces, see #4, which can apply to items besides framed photos! 3) Mirrors create space in small rooms--but be aware of what’s being reflected! 4) Got lots of framed photos on every flat surface? Create wall groupings instead by first selecting a shape for the grouping (round, square, triangular). Lay out tape or yarn on the floor in the shape and size of the space you’re filling, organize the photos in an arrangement you like, then transfer them to your wall. Now you’ve got beautiful, singular art on your walls and less clutter on your shelves! 5) Put art on shelves or mantels and lean against the wall for a less formal look.6) Remember, art for your walls is anything you make it! In my travels, I collect enamel pins. When I get home I fasten them onto a long denim coat that hangs in my hallway as a display. Don’t be afraid to think outside the frame!
