If you would like to spend no more than one year living in South America in Argentina on a temporary basis then you will need to obtain a temporary residence visa. Temporary residence visas can be issued to foreigners that want to come to Argentina to live for a variety of reasons such as for temporary work, for temporary students that need something longer than a short term visa and even medical visas for people coming to Argentina for medical services or treatment.

If you will be coming to Argentina to work you will need a visa, even if you will be working as an unpaid intern or a volunteer. Work visas are issued by the National Directorate of Migration which means that in order to get a temporary work visa you must be given the green light from the National Directorate of Migration in Argentina. Typically the company that you will be working for will take care of that for you. However it is not uncommon for your consulate to take care of it for you.

If the company that you will be working for on a temporary basis is not already registered then they will need to submit commercial references and information on the owners and management of the company to the consulate. To qualify for a temporary work visa you will need to have an employment contract with an Argentinian company, your birth certificate, your marriage certificate if you are married, a passport and some passport size photos. The article 15 E labor contract visa is valid for six to 12 months. The article 15 E secondment visa is also valid for six to 12 months but in instances where an employment contract is not needed. Each types of temporary work visa provides legal temporary residence in Argentina.

Student visas are issued for a period of six to 12 months and can be renewed. A student visa offers temporary resident status for the duration of the visa. To be eligible you will have to be registered at a school, university or college that is official accredited in Argentina. You will need documentation proving your enrollment. And if you are a minor you will need a travel relief declaration signed by your parents at the consulate.
