For those who do not know, I am the bookkeeper and hr person for a small business in my area. The pay is decent, though, I sometimes wonder if it is really worth it. I have been with this company for just over a year, and have moved up the ranks very quickly. I was hired as a part-time employee at very low pay. Once my employers saw my ability I was promoted and given a raise. A few short months later, my immediate supervisor resigned and I was promoted to her position.
I would change many things about this place if someone gave me a magic wand. Since that does not seem likely, I use my writing as an outlet for my stress. The latest happening does not really involve my employer at all, but a co-worker, who left me high and dry and bitter.
When I was promoted to my current position, I was given the responsibility to find a suitable replacement for the position I was leaving. We initially used a job placement agency to find a replacement. The first person we hired came highly recommended by the agency, I later found out, she was a friend of the family of our placement agent. During the interview the girl seemed to fit the bill. She claimed to have all the experience we were looking for. She was well spoken and seemed as if she would work out. Within two weeks we called the agency for a replacement.
It seems that she over qualified herself, and lied about experience she had. The first thing I asked her to do is to send an email. The first thing out of her mouth was, "How?" Well, if you do not know how to send an email, you really don't need this job. Still willing to give her the benefit of the doubt I attempted to teach her things that she claimed she already knew. After being frustrated day after day, we decided to replace her. The replacement they sent was very qualified. She knew how to do most everything and demonstrated the ability to learn what she did not know.
