The grants are worth more than a whopping $3.8 million and will help local law enforcement agencies battle and protect communities from impaired and drunk drivers and drugs.
Governor Fletcher said about the law enforcement grants, "Law enforcement officers witness firsthand the devastating effects of drug abuse and the tragic consequences of impaired driving," said Governor Fletcher. "This grant money will assist our law enforcement officers as they work to keep Kentuckians safe."
Of the 79 grants new law enforcement and anti-crime grants, 21 of them were awarded from the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet through the Law Enforcement Service Fee program.
All of the state grant money will help law enforcement agencies and police officers all over the state of Kentucky fight crime that deals with drivers who are behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
In addition to the 21 grants, 58 more grants were given by the Byrne/Justice Assistance Grants program, a federal grant program that helps local and state anti-crime agencies and organizations. This money will go to help police stations, state drug task forces, criminal justice programs, and other law enforcement patrols fight the spread of alcohol and drug abuse all over Kentucky and improve the quality and reduce crime in communities all over the state.
