Preble County Ohio definitely the place you want to visit for sightings of the strange and unusual.

Camden Ohio "The Devil's Backbone" On state route 725 there is a high gorge on a forked road that is called by most " The Devil's Backbone". There are tales of mass sightings of Native American ghosts that haunt the area. It was a place of a great slaughter of Indian Leaders, they were not buried but left laying along the gorge. The relatives of these leaders were afraid to touch the bones for burial because of strange supernatural forces that scared them. There was a mass death of a number of the settlers that came here after the massacre, and it was also believed to be cursed by Chief Red Turtle as he was driven from his land.

Fudge Road- There is a bridge on Fudge Road where a distraught woman hung herself after her infant died. The legend says that if you park on the bridge when everything is quiet, and you say " Mama" three times then you will see the woman and hear the infant crying.

Fort St. Clair- This town is haunted by two apparitions one is a Soldier that people refer to as "bloody bones" I do not know if this is because he appears that way or not, and the other is an Indian who is seen dancing below a graveyard near the ravine.

Brubaker Covered Bridge- A terrible accident occurred here in the 1930's. A group of teenagers had an accident on the bridge flipping the car many times and bodies were hurled everywhere, at first count it was a tentative 12. A Farmer and his wife came upon the accident and attempted to help, the scene was very disturbing. After the bodies were collected and family's notified it was noticed that a boy was missing and after several days of searching his body never found. Since the accident numerous people including the farmer and his wife had the same incident while driving over the bridge. While driving across the bridge your car will stall, and then there is a sound like air rushing by you real fast, and then a tapping on your windshield. Its said that the tapping is the lost boy trying to talk to you and tell you where his body is.

Takeaways
  • The Devils Backbone strange sightings and even a curse.
  • Fort St. Clair the town of two ghosts
  • Fudge Road a woman ghost and an infant crying

The Lanier school is located on the second highest hill in the county. The hill reaches up and levels off, for about a half a mile, and decends back down. Two large farm houses on that hill, along with the school, have had several stories about hauntings and events. Driving 503 south, almost to the top of the hill, if you look to the west, in the ditch, there is a section of layers of rock, in the side of the ditch. If you look closely, there is a face with a frown, that was carved by an indian. Legend has it, that the farm house was hexed or cursed by indians. I went to that school and it is now a resident. I'm 37 and have since moved out of state. I could tell you a lot about that land. It is truely haunted. I believe that that land was probably some sort of ceremonial land, taken away. There is definitely a reason for this carving, which represents anger or hurt. This area is very well known for finding artifacts. The carving is about a foot or so in hight, from head to chin. It's r
