Brief warning for new readers:
We do recipes a little differently here at the Bachelor Pad Gourmet. At BPG, we consider every recipe a story - usually an adventure story - in the context of a real life, molded around the values and experience of bachelors everywhere. It's not for everyone, and we're not going to act like it is. To be specific, the BPG will not tell you: precise ingredient measurements (usually), nutritional information, a well-defined list of steps for consistent results.

You can find those anywhere. What the BPG will tell you, and practically nobody else will, is: how new recipes come about, how to make potentially delicious food with whatever you've got sitting around, who each dish is likely to impress and how much, how to minimize cleanup, and how to cook well on pure intuition (which, incidentally, will impress most people). Also you will never find most of our recipes anywhere else, because most of them came about by accident and would have been one-time creations if we hadn't started writing them down. (If you're in a rush, the closest thing to a classic recipe will be found by skimming all the bold bits.)

Pizza Sauce on Grilled-Cheese-Sandwich Sandwiches

So I was in the kitchen, talking to one of my roommates about girls, and decided on grilled-cheese sandwiches for lunch. I'd already been to an early class, and he'd just woken up, so the conversation was a little one-sided. Also I'd just run into a beautiful girl who actually gave me the time of day, so I was pretty excited and didn't care much whether he was responding or not. I was not paying much attention to him or the food, really.

I took four slices of bread (this was white bread which I'd bought for I think 48 cents/loaf, which becomes important later), a small block of left-over "seriously sharp" cheddar, a nugget of my butter someone had used and left in the back of the fridge (still good, though), and a frying pan, which I put on Medium-low heat, forgetting that for grilled-cheese sandwiches you really want Medium-high at least, if not High. Like I said, not paying attention.

Takeaways
  • Remember! No sizzle means no golden-brown crispy exterior, means limp and unsatisfying sandwich.
  • Cheddar makes for zestier grilled cheese sandwiches than American.
Did You Know?
Turns out if you use cheap enough bread, you can make a sandwich out of your sandwiches. Who knew?

Hey Ben, try my Pizza Hut Pizza Sauce clone on them. :) It's a simple cauce. If the marjoram is too exotic, substitute with lemon juice. Tell me it's not the best pizza sauce ever. lol http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/443601/recipe_clone_pizza_hut_pizza_sauce.html
