Ghost hunters study paranormal activity in a variety of settings, depending on what their level of expertise is. Paranormal activity, according to YourDictionary.com, is any activity that is "beyond the range of normal experience or scientific explanation." Many people believe that they have experienced paranormal activity, but often times the activity can be explained by simple research of the affected area.

Unusual activity, or paranormal activity, is often attributed to a ghostly presence or poltergeist. People have seen items falling from the ceiling (pennies falling from the Comedy Factory, for example), phones melting, glasses shaking in bars, doors opening and closing, and the list goes on and on. Ghost hunters, or ghost investigators try to determine whether paranormal activity is responsible for these unusual events, or whether there is a more unusual explanation for the activity.

Ghost Hunter Tool Kit

Ghost hunters use many things to help in their research of suspicious activity in a home or other building. Typical tools of the trade for a basic investigation include:

Notebook and pencil or pen
Measuring Tape
Extra batteries for equipment
Flashlights
Repair kit for the equipment you are using
Cameras- digital and film cameras
Video camera
Motion detectors
Voice Recorders for EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena)

This list is by no means all encompassing; many professional investigators use other items such as Geiger counters, various types of thermometers and EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) meters.
