As a child in the 50's, I remember A&W having a very distinctive taste like no other root beer. It was so incredible, you almost wanted to chew it. You could go to the drive-ins and get a glass one-gallon jug from A&W. In the 60's, the FDA began posting news reports about certain ingredients in different foods and cosmetics being potentially carcinogenic. Apparently A&W adjusted their recipe, as it never tasted the same after that period of time. Yes, as adults, our taste sensors change, but that was a very distintive taste I will never forget. I won't touch another A&W and all the other root beers taste generically alike.

I love the old drive in A & Ws where the soda came from the fountain and you could take it home in cardboard containers that looked like megaphones. The stuff you get from the soda fountain is vastly superior to the bottled and canned for those who have that option.

Cool facts. I love root beer, although these days it's strictly diet soda for me, lol.

I miss the old A & W Rootbeer stands. There was one a few blocks from my grandmothers. They had a miniature golf course. For a treat my grandmother would let me go play a round and have a root beer float. Happy memories.
