A lot of people love to fish this lake for bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and other fish. Fishing the lake at night provides a great adventure for people that love to fish. When fishing for catfish its best to use night crawlers or some type of stinky catfish bad. The best area to fish for largemouth bass is early in the morning by working the bank areas around where the lily pads surround the lake.
Also, if you like to trout fish right off the exit heading toward Plum Orchard Lake there is Paint Creek that runs along the road and stocked by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. There are areas you can pull off of the road and fish. There is a lot of fish in the creek because a lot of people don't fish the creek too much. You can catch brown, golden and rainbow trout.
Getting back to Plum Orchard Lake you can camp just about anywhere on the lake. I use to take a tent and sleeping bag along with a couple of fishing poles. You may want to bring a chair where you can kick back and relax and wait until the channel catfish start to bite. I suggest bringing a lantern as well so you can see.
Plum Orchard Lake is a relative small fishing compound, but is handicap accessible and suitable for small boats if you prefer to fish the lake that way.
You can see a lot of wildlife in the area such as deer, turkey, rabbits and other animals. You can hike some trails if you like to get some physical activity during your visit.
If you plan on camping out or just to fish I suggest stopping right off the interstate I-77 exit 54 in the main part of town to pick-up supplies and fishing bait.
