Yet another Republican is caught in a gay sex scandal, this time U.S. Senator Larry Craig (R) Idaho. Like the former Congressman from Virginia whose name escapes me, who resigned office just before the 2004 elections, Mark Foley who resigned in the midst of last fall's elections, and David Vitter (R) LA. and others, Larry Craig was a champion of the so-called "values voters" and "family values". Whose family we're talking about is open to debate, I wouldn't insult the Addams family by comparing them to these weasels. Okay, Vitter was only caught patronizing prostitutes. And these guys all said Bill Clinton was "unfit to hold office".

It seems, if you haven't heard, that Senator Craig came on to an undercover cop in a Minnesota men's room and get this, pleaded guilty to a charge of disturbing the peace and "lewd conduct".or something like that and paid the fine. Now that you-know-what has hit the fan, Mr. Craig is denying everything and says he only made a deal "to get it out of the way".

Larry Craig, in addition to his duties in the Senate was Idaho Chairman for Slick Mitt Romney. You know, the Presidential candidate named after a baseball glove. Problem is this Mitt can't be broken in 'cause it's so slick, glove oil won't stick to it. Craig, like a good player, "took one for the team" (maybe in more ways than one) and resigned from that position immediately. It would be fitting for Craig to go on Don Imus' new show on ABC radio and proclaim: "I-da-Ho"!

Craig was also a member of what Mo Rocca called the Senate's version of a "boy band", The Singing Senators, consisting formerly of John Ashcroft, James Jeffords, Larry Craig and helmet-haired Trent Lott, who was a former cheerleader at Ole Miss. Of course, it turns out they were called a "boy band" for reasons other than their own youth, although Republicans in their 60's have been known to hide behind the old "youthful indescretion" defense when caught with their pants down.

Here's what's wrong with today's GOP: (besides the obvious, the Bush administration)

yep--I actually sent this guy an email and told him to "come out of the closet--no one cares if you're gay". He didn't respond. Thanks for a great article!

I don't completely disagree Jeremy. I would like to see a VIABLE 3rd party arise. The focus of this article is the blatant hypocrisy from the GOP on moral issues and "family values" as if they were more virtuous than the dems. I believe they had no intention of doing anything about the gay marriage amendment or abortion and just used christian voters to get re-elected.

This is like the Democrats saying they are for the little guy, and not special interest, big money corporations. There are tons of hypocrites on both sides of the aisle, and there will always continue to be... the only difference being how far some run with the proverbial ball. This is why the two party system that has come about is so ludacris. We need to get behind the Senators (Rep. & Dem.) that want to get rid of soft money, and special interest and move toward public financing aka Clean money, and open everything up again. God help us.
