The fundamental element of eBay.com is to buy and sell merchandise. During its formative years, eBay founders realized that many people did not trust the internet for secure transactions. How were the buyers and sellers to know that the transaction would be completed? With this idea in mind, eBay responded by instituting policies that punish non-paying bidders or sellers who were fraudulent. As more auctions occurred without any problems, trust levels began to climb.
eBay.com was founded in California but has since spread to other countries. Australia eBay or eBay for the United Kingdom are just two examples of eBay's evolution for auctions. By tailoring their websites to reflect currency and language, it allows for ease of use for eBay stores and individuals wishing to purchase or sell products.
As with anything, too much can be dangerous and eBay.com has proven to be no different. Many people are able to purchase the items they wish and then move on with their daily lives. There are some, granted a small portion, who find themselves addicted to the thrill of the hunt. Individuals, referred to as "collectors", continuously purchase items regardless whether they are needed or not. "Collector" in this terminology is not a good thing. It is an addiction that can tear apart lives and families. Thankfully the percentage of individuals completely consumed by eBay is small.
