With the top candidates in both the Democratic and Republican parties coming from New York, Rasmussen Associates took a look at how New York voters would vote if both of them were to be the nominees and the election were to be held today. And while they were at it, took a look at how New Yorkers feel about the President and their top local officials as well.

Over all Senator Hillary Clinton comes out with 58% and Rudy Giuliani with 33%, a 25% difference. Another 7% said they would vote for someone else and 2% were not sure.

They also asked to give the candidates a favorability rating and the total showed that Clinton is viewed favorably by 63% of New York votes and Giuliani by 47%. Breaking these figures down even further, Clinton got a 28% very favorable rating and Giuliani 18%. Her somewhat favorable rating is 35% and Giuliani's 29%. Taking a look at the voters negative impressions, Clinton is viewed as somewhat unfavorable by 15% and Giuliani by 24% and Clinton's very unfavorable rating is 20% and Giuliani's 26%. There were 3% who said they were not sure on how they would rate Clinton and 2% said the same about Giuliani.

They also asked the voters who they would trust more to handle the war on terror, which 38% think of as the most important issue in the election. Clinton comes out ahead with this issue with 44% saying they would trust her more and 36% saying the same about Giuliani, with 19% saying they are unsure, the biggest number of unsure responses of all the questions. When it comes to the other issues in the campaign, 23% of New York voters think the economy is most important, 6% think it is education, 2% crime, 4% immigration, 13% healthcare, 6% say it is energy and the environment and 7% are not sure.

There is another New Yorker who could play a big roll in how the final figures turn out. They asked the voters if they thought that current New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg should enter the race. He gets a yes vote from 36%, a no vote from 44% and 19% are not sure.
