Himachal Pradesh is full of beautiful hill stations in India. You can visit any of these hill stations based on your own choice. If you like hill stations with lot of people, you may visit Simla, Kulu or Manali. However, if you love to visit the places that are still some what unknown not having many people, then, Palampur is the best option for you. I myself fall in to this category and hence, I visited Palampur during last winter in November. Palampur is very quiet, peaceful and totally pollution free hill station. It is situated on the flat land above the hill.

Palampur can be reached by air via Kangda, which is the nearest airport at a distance of around 20 miles. There is a daily flight from Delhi to Kangda. Kangda is also the nearest railway station to Palampur on meter gauge railway line. There are regular State transport buses and taxies available from all the main cities of Himachal Pradesh like Pathankot, Jammu, and Chandigadh. This is the most preferred option to reach Palampur. Palampur offers moderate weather in summer with the highest temperature as 90 degrees F. winters are quiet severe here with the minimum temperature around 20 degrees F. The best period to visit Palampur is from November to March. There are lots of tea gardens around Palampur on the hilly slopes with the most beautiful deodar and pine trees. There are few hotels available here that provide good facilities. The hotels like Surbhi, Silver Oak, Yamini, and Grand royal offer good amenities here at reasonable rates. The rates for these hotels are around Rs.2000 ($50) to Rs.3600 ($90) per day for a deluxe double air-conditioned room. We had stayed at Hotel Surbhi that charged us Rs.3000 ($75) per day with complementary breakfast. The Gujarati food was fabulous at hotel Surbhi that we all enjoyed. It is normally required to stay here for around 2 to 3 days to cover all the sites seeing places at and near-by Palampur. The taxis and the tourist buses are available to move around Palampur.

Did You Know?
Palampur has still remained peaceful and pure hill station in spite of the powerful attack of all present day evils. Plan your visit as soon as possible to taste its virgin beauty.
