Sometimes it doesn't seem to matter where you look, you start to find words that sound familiar form somewhere else but you can't always place where you heard it before. This happens abundantly in Pop Culture, band names have a high tendency to be taken from some random name or statement in history, this goes for many other aspects in the entertainment business also.

Listed below are some Mythical Creature names that have been used in pop culture and I am even including some info on the actual origin of the name as well is how it is being used in pop culture.

Kraken-

Pop Culture: The Kraken has been mentioned in many a story, but most notably the movies Clash of the Titans and the recent Pirates of the Caribbean series of films.

Mythology: Kraken is a sea monster, very similar that of the one portrayed in the movies, from Scandinavian legends.

Nain-

Pop Culture: There is a popular band that goes by the name The Nain Rouge (which would be "Red Dwarf").

Mythology: The Nain is a black, menacing Satyr-like creature of Breton legend.

Oberon:

Pop Culture: Oberon, I am sure has been used elsewhere, but in West Michigan it is most notably the name of a terrific summer ale brewed by Bell's Brewery.

Mythology: Oberon is the King of Fairies in Medieval romance literature.

Ogre-

Pop Culture: The ogre has been popularized as a friendly large oaf in the Shrek movies.

Mythology: The word Ogre was originally used to describe a sinister, pointy toothed woman by a French storyteller but is now used to describe almost any bogeyman type creature.

Pazuzu-

Pop Culture: Pazuza was a name that brought fear to everyone who watched the movie the Exorcist as it was the demon that possessed young Reagan.

Mythology: Pazuza is an Assyrian and Babylonian creature that had a humanoid shape with a canine face and bulgy eyes.

Pooka-

Pop Culture: The Pooka was a giant invisible white Rabbit in the classic James Stuart movie Harvey.

Mythology: The Pooka is a shape-shifting mischievous spirit of Irish tradition.

Skunk Ape-

Pop Culture: A creature mention recently in the Rob Zombie film House of 1,000 Corpses.
