Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese practice of using the placement and arrangement of things to bring harmony to your environment. Some believe that placing certain objects in particular areas consistent with 'good Feng Shui' will bring about a calmness. There are even cures to end headaches, bring about fertility and bolster creativity, in addition to specific tips for holidays. Getting rid of clutter and rearranging furniture are two great starts in Feng Shui, but adding or changing color is an easy way to create real harmony in your home.

The compass directions are represented by four elements of Feng Shui - Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The first step is to know the compass directions of your home so you know where the color go. There are two or more colors for each area but you don't have to use all of them. One is works just fine. The idea is to make the color an element of these areas of your home - not hose your walls in deep purple if you need help with your career.

Fire is the element of the south. A balanced Feng Shui Fire element in your home will create an energy to support your career. The colors associated with Fire, and should therefore be a focus of any southern room of your house, are red, orange, purple, pink or yellow. These colors can be rather bold and nobody wants red walls. If your living room is in the southern part of your house you can use decorative pillows in one or more of these colors. You can even use a potted plant with flowers that bloom in one or more of these colors.

The Earth element brings about a harmony in your relationships and create stability. Your Earth rooms are in the northeast and southwest, but Earth also represents the center of your home. Earth colors are light yellow and beige. If your kitchen is in the center of your house this is a perfect place to paint the walls light yellow. Since these colors are not particularly intrusive in a color scheme it should be easy to incorporate them to any room.
