Making a living creatively, is a dream for many people. To do what they want, when they want. But being in business for yourself in any manner is an extremely creative and often fluctuating way to make a living. Even more so is being in a highly competitive creative field. I worked for a photographer that had been very successful, and he was hired to do many weddings. You can see his work at www.visionmaster.com. He does wonderful work.

But there is extreme competition in these fields. There are a lot of people in these glamourous creative positions like photography. But you can do it if you put in a lot of work at low paying jobs while you learn a craft, like Dave did. He kept working in photography and built a business for himself. And had luxury sports cars to boot. But you have to pay your dues. He started out in Glamour Shots and did paparazzi work too. He has a strong desire to be successful, and you can too. Image accounts for a lot in this field so keep looking good and keep fit and make sure to market yourself well.

Some jobs for creative types include advertising agencies, photo studios, book publishers, newspapers, and even radio. Often there is a need for behind the scenes work. Sometimes you get a chance to do the creative work. Sometimes it turns out that you have a head for business. Like I did. Now I sell used books. I am still near something I love. And I intend to do it legit as a book dealer. I have found several valuable books that I will take into NYC to sell. And hopefully get used to doing business in there.

love old books and found a secret location to buy all sorts of first editions in excellent condition. I hope I can learn the finer parts of locating and selling books. There is no one right or wrong way to do things, but you can make money doing the things you love. I love browsing bookstores and getting good deals and valuable information there. I hope you find something you like to do too.

Remember to get help and to follow your heart. Before I started selling books, I already had quite a collection. Now I'm making money doing something I love. Isn't that what everyone should do?

Takeaways
  • Doing what you love is important.
  • Being in a creative job is very demanding.
