The ABC television series, "Desperate Housewives," is often perceived as a very realistic show. It has been known to touch on some very common and realistic topics. Just last season alone, some of the realistic topics which the show touched on in some way included teenage pregnancy, child pornography, adultery, twisted politicians and a suicide attempt. Last season, it was also discovered that a kind old woman had frozen her husband after he died so that she could continue receiving his medical benefits. Though this seems a bit disgusting and very sad, this type of thing happens every day. I have yet to see anything on "Desperate Housewives" that seems too unrealistic or out of the ordinary. This season, it appears that "Desperate Housewives" is going to be touching on yet another very realistic topic. This season on "Desperate Housewives," there will be a gay couple who moves onto Wisteria Lane - the street that Felicity Huffman, Terri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria all live on in the series. It is rumored that Mark Cherry, the producer of "Desperate Housewives," is very excited about this. He is getting the opportunity to have the first male desperate housewife casted. It is also believed that one of the main reasons that Mark Cherry has decided to add two gay characters to the cast this season is to attract gay viewers.
Originally, people thought that one of the new gay characters was going to be played by David Beckham. As a fan of both David and Victoria Beckham, I'm sorry to say that this is not true! Tuc Watkins, who is most well known for his role as David Vickers on "One Life to Live," is going to be starring as Bob. Kevin Rahm, who is well known for his role as Kyle McCarty on "Judging Amy," is going to be playing the gay character on the show named Lee.
There have been gay characters portrayed by many major, and wonderful, television series. Some of these include "Will and Grace," "Dawson's Creek," and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," just to name a few of the many. "Desperate Housewives" is just another wonderful television series to add to list who have chose to add gay characters to their casts.
