With a great computer, a lot of multimedia entertainment, and a couple of hours you could do wonderful things. Instead of just sitting in front of your computer screen to watch your favorite videos or listen to your favorite tunes, sitting in front of your television screen would be better. In order to get started on your entertainment project, have access to a dependable computer with tons of storage and a fast network.

Media center software is an excellent start when it comes to organizing your multimedia files so that you can watch them on a television screen. Not only can you use the software to play back most media file types, but you are also able to play back Windows DRM protected media that was downloaded as well. Essentially, you are able to use your computer as a digital video recorder instead of having to purchase a highly priced one.

When you first start working with Windows Media Center, it will search every nook and cranny on your computer to find all of your media files and then organize them in the proper places. Once you are ready to access these files, just use point and click action to choose them. It usually doesn't take too long to go through this process unless you have an enormous hard drive with loads of content. Another great feature of the Media Center Software is that you can also access network storage drives that are sharing your home network.

The last part of your entertainment journey has to do with connecting your computer to your television. This would be considered bridging the gap between the two. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use a Microsoft Media Center Extender. This will allow your videos to travel from your computer to the extender that is connected to your television using a WiFi network or a wired ethernet connection. If you possess a high definition television, then the only Windows Vista compatible Media Center Extender with HD outputs is the Xbox 360 console. Hopefully, there will be a large selection of devices in the near future.
