5000 Applicants Attend Local Job Fair in Clinton Twp., Michigan

The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Twp, Michigan is set to open in mid October and they are looking for people to work, which is great news to our local economy.

My daughter is turning 16 in September and when we saw the job fair ad and we decided this would be a great opportunity for her to apply at several stores at one time. The fair was being held at the Macomb Community College both Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. So with resume in hand and really not knowing what to expect we made our way.

There were 33 stores that had tables set up and accepting applications with 1-2 representatives to handle the crowds of people. They were even hiring for the mall security as well as the information desk. We went mid afternoon on Tuesday and I was surprised to see how many people were there, as many adults as teenagers.

She chose a couple of stores to fill out an application and at the very first one, Delia's, they asked her to return for an interview the following morning at 9 a.m. She was excited because one of her other friends had gotten an interview earlier in the day and was hired.

We came back Wednesday morning at 8:50 a.m. to find a line of approximately 100 people already waiting to get in. This crowd was much more professional as people were dressed in suits, carrying briefcases and looking very determined to make a great first impression.

The line moved quickly once the doors opened and people flocked to their destinations. While my daughter interviewed I observed that a lot of the higher end stores like Coach and Cacique were attracting quite a few people.

After a quick 15 minute interview she returned, no one in her group was hired on the spot but they will be notified within one week of their status. We weren't too disappointed as it was a great experience for her and she still has the other stores that may call her as well.
