When most people think of street art they think of someone tagging their name on a blank wall in that thick blocky or balloony style that is almost always impossible to read. However there are many other kinds of street art that don't involve someone painting their name with a can of spray paint. A broad variety of materials such as paint, stickers, wheatpaste posters, wood and even found objects are used to make street art. Street art is similar to much contemporary art, being done in public spaces and usually designed to make a statement about something be it political, ethical, or just something fun. Street art, however, is usually done in secret with the artists, apart from a few that have become famous, stay anonymous.

We will start off with one of the most well known street artists, Banksy. Banksy, an English artist, is famous for his highly detailed, multi-layer stencils of people, animals, and objects spray painted on the streets and walls of cities. His distinctive style has become legendary and his work is some of the most often photographed street art. This semi-anonymous artist has had many gallery exhibits and sells his work on canvas for thousands of dollars.

Another English artist, Slinkachu leaves tiny hand-painted figures strategically around London to be noticed only by the most observant people passing by. The anonymous artist modifies figurines from train sets and architectural models and places them in suitable locations. All of his work is photo documented and available on his blog for everyone far from London to view and enjoy.

ABOVE is a street artist known for his wooden arrow mobiles. Originally from California and now based in Paris, ABOVE travels the globe hanging spinning wooden arrows from where ever he can reach -which is a lot higher than you would expect. Short words are usually screen printed onto the arrows to make a statement about the location where it is hung. ABOVE's arrows can also be seen painted onto buildings and store fronts, as well as a few houses and vans.
