Ragu Traditional by Knorr® is ideal for families who do not have the time to create homemade Bolognese sauces every time. It is quick and easy to prepare and it tastes great!

I brought this product with me from the UK. It was made in the EU and therefore conforms to EU guidelines. It comes in a 510g jar, which provides 4 servings in every jar.

It is my favourite brand of sauce that I use when I do not have the time to cook Bolognese sauce from scratch. The instructions are very simple to follow. Even someone who is not a confident cook can follow the simple recipe that is listed on the back of this jar of Ragu.

Step one requires you to cook 350g of mince (ground beef) in a pan. After it has been browned and the fat has been drained, add the sauce. Then in step two you simmer the meat and sauce for 20 minutes. Once the ingredients have simmered for 20 minutes serve with spaghetti or other choice of pasta. Alternatively, if you are vegetarian, simply heat the contents of the jar and eat with pasta. I enjoy the taste of Ragu Original. It contains a lot of tomatoes (80%) and I like the herbs and spices that are used to season it with.

Here is a summary of the nutrition information:

Typical values per 100g

Energy 190Kj/45kcal
Protein 1.6g
Carbohydrate 5.8g
Of which sugars 5.6g
Fat 1.8g

Calories 58
Fat 2.2g

Salt 1.46g

This product is low in saturated fat, calories per portion and also low in fibre. But it is high in sugar. The salt content can also creep up if you consume more than a portion. But the ingredients of Ragu Original by Knorr® are simple and healthy. Tomatoes feature first at 80% of the total ingredients, followed by tomato puree, onions, sunflower oil, sugar, salt, basil, citric acid, parsley, herb and spice extracts, and oregano. There are no artificial flavours or preservatives used in this jar of Bolognese sauce.

I'm not sure if Ragu is suitable for nut and egg allergy sufferers. I do not recall an allergy warning on the jar. Sophie

Is this suitable for nut and egg allergy sufferers?

The product is the same as the US brand of the same name = Ragu. Unilever is the parent company that makes Knorr and Ragu.

I appreciate the comments. The reason why you may not have tried this brand is because it is British. I'm not sure if this brand is availble in America. Sophie
