Review of Dover Straits Restaurant in Mundelein, Illinois

We recently had dinner at Dover Straits Restaurant in Mundelein, Illinois. Mundelein in Lake County, Illinois, north of the City of Chicago.

Dover Straits is a very nice restaurant specializing in seafood. Dover Straits is named for the Cliffs of Dover in Europe, which is known for ideal water temperatures for the best tasting of fish. The restaurant is named to reflect the high quality of fish that they serve. The building is a wood plank board building. The interior has a nautical theme, with a big salt water fish tank, drift wood, and nautical decorations.

We were greeted at the door by stately gentlemen, who led us to a wooden table, helped us with our chairs and handed us large menus with a flourish.

A waiter came to the table with a bread basket and took our drink order. We each ordered a cocktail. While nibbling on our bread, we looked at the menu.

The menu offers an excellent variety of dinner entrees.There were seafood entrees, and some steaks, filet mignon, New York Strip, Barbecued Back Ribs and chicken entrees.

The seafood was listed under Captain Selections and included: Imported Dover Sole, Cold Water Lobster Tail, Alaskan Jumbo King Crab Legs, Whole Live Maine Lobster, Bouillabaisse Marsellaise, San Francisco's Original Cioppino, Imperial Combo, Shrimp de Jonghe, Jumbo French Fried Shrimp, Crab cakes, Jumbo Gulf Shrimp, Alaskan Large King Crab Legs, Jumbo Stuffed Shrimp and Sea Scallops. House Specialties included Flounder Wellington, Golden Tilapia Filet, Seafood Sampler and Salmon Encroute.

The waiter returned with our cocktails and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered the specialty of the house, which is Dover Sole, My companion ordered one of the specials, which was Salmon Encroute.
