So now you have made the decision, you want to get started as an eBay seller. There are a few things that you need to know before you go and start marketing or selling on eBay.

What are you going to sell?

First, you need to know what it is you are going to sell. Do you have a speciality or hobby? You will do far better on eBay if you become an expert for particular types of products, as buyers who are interested in those products will come back to you again and again. You will not get any buyer loyalty or reputation as an expert if you just sell junk at random.

When you think about what to sell, there are some things to consider. The most important of these is to sell what you know. If you try to sell something that you do not know anything about then you will not be able to write a good product description and sell it for a good price.

You may surmise you are not especially expert in anything, but if you think about what sort of goods you typically purchase and which websites you go to most often, I am certain you will recognize some sort of corner stone. If all else fails express it to your friends and family: they will almost certainly give you an insight you have not even thought about.

Out of all the stuff you know enough about, you should then think about which things you could get for a reasonable enough cost to resell, and how suitable it would be for posting. If you can think of something of that you are knowledgeable about and it is small and light enough for postage to be comparatively inexpensive, then that is awesome!

Do not hesitate if you think the object you are selling is too obscure - it is not. There is a need for almost everything on eBay, even things that would not sell once in a year if you stocked them in a shop. Filling a niche more than likely will sell better than if you sell a common thing.

Get a Tax license and register your business in your county.

If you make enough money, you should be aware that you are going to have to start paying taxes. This will not be taken care of for you. If you are determine to sell on eBay on a full-time basis, you should register in your county as a business.

Expect slow times.
